Anah's past is shrouded in mystery — ask her about it and she'll tell you a different story than she's told someone else. Of course, she was joking around when she told you, but that's a bit wild, ain't it! A social butterfly, a popular influencer, and a freelance sex worker (formerly not so freelance, but like hell she'll talk about that), floating from situationship to situationship and leaving the second things get too intimate, Anah is simply living her best life. Just try not to get attached. Everyone thinks they're her best friend or her favorite ex, but how many of those can she really have before favorite stops meaning anything?this verse takes place in shelter island.  TBA.    fantasy. 
Though she was raised in the bustling port town of Ravana — formerly one of the last bastions of the indigenous people who call her continent home, recently absorbed into a larger empire because of its prime harbor real estate — Anah remembers very little of her birthplace or her biological family. All she knows is that they immigrated here by boat; flashes of memory, lingering feelings of loss and instability, but not much more. For as long as she can remember, she has lived here, in Ravana, by the sea she came from.It was a rough life to start. Even very young, Anah had a cunning mind and she knew she had a pretty face, so charm became her front-line weapon and tool for survival. Charm that got her odd jobs and kept people from prodding too hard about where her parents were (lest they dragged her to an orphanage, yikes), charm that let her scrape by without being claimed by starvation or cold. She sang at taverns for spare change, washed dishes, and dodged advances as she grew into her teenage years.The singing, as it turned out, was her favorite. She sang even when it didn't make her money, although never in front of people, she was too business-savvy for that; instead, she would wander the shores at night and string together notes that sounded pretty, words that meant something, song-structures that told a story. Those who saw and heard her from their windows, though they could not recognize her shrouded in darkness, began calling the young woman "the Siren of Ravana," believing her a ghost or a spectre sent by the sea gods.Anah's dream was the same as any other commoner girl's: being swept away by a rich man and leaving all of the hardship behind. She knew it was pretty much impossible, though. Ravana was known to be seedy, low-class, its shorelines populated with brothels ran by enterprising nobles from the invading empire. Girls from Ravana were pretty, but worthless. Glimmering trash. At sixteen, the man who approached Anah had a different offer in mind.

PERSONALITY.
on the surface, chiaki can come off as a bit strange. though she's quite expressive and usually speaks her mind, she is at the same time rather solemn: you won't often see her smiling casually, even when she's feeling good. it's not quite resting bitch face; it's resting wistful melancholy face.sometimes you'll catch her staring off into nothing, glassy-eyed, doll-like. usually, this is either because she is lost in thought, staring at the invisible weave of threads in the world around her, or fully dissociating in a cloud of brainfog. other times, she'll be very present and grounded, chatty and social. it depends on the day, her mood, and how well her mind is being stimulated.chiaki's feisty side comes out when her beliefs are challenged. by no means does she believe people are good by nature — bullying taught her that — and sometimes her deepest inner thoughts can be a bit misanthropic and bitter. however, she's a big believer in the power of will and determination ( jjk IS a shounen anime, after all. ) if you want to change things badly enough and work hard enough to do it, you can. if it seems like there are only two bad choices in front of you, sometimes you can bend fate and find a third one.you'll never find her in a state of thoughtless peace. chiaki's mind is in go-mode on a constant basis. she's having conversations in her head, thinking out worst case scenarios, overthinking past mistakes, strategizing the next fight. head FULL. it takes a lot of external stimulation to get her mind to quiet down, which is why despite having no power or strength she takes immediately to fighting. it keeps her grounded in her body, it keeps her mind busy from being busy. you'll often find her stimming or seeking out things to touch, eat, read, interact with.there is something... else to her, sometimes, though it's hard to catch underneath a doll's face and glassy composure. it comes out when she's in her element: in the throes of dance or high-stakes combat, when she is in complete control of her environment and she knows there are eyes on her. something sharp-edged and cutthroat and dangerously confident in her singular goal. impress. control. kill. this sharklike underbelly is the true jujutsu sorcerer in her, hidden beneath the skin.

HISTORY.
chiaki komatsu was born to a lower-income family of non-sorcerers. having seen both cursed spirits and the threads of cursed energy from birth, initially her parents thought her very imaginative and brushed it off. as she got older, she started to doubt herself and stopped talking about them, believing them to be hallucinations ( both harmful and benevolent, as the threads helped her more often than not. she assumed them to be a figment of the imagination, her mind's way of visualizing her interactions with the space around her. )her mother, akari and hiroki komatsu, were a nurse and a remote IT specialist (& stay-at-home father) respectively. they were never very well-off, but they did their best to scrape by and give their daughter a good upbringing. eventually, she started hiding her stark-white hair, brows and lashes: middle school was pretty rough with the bullying. sticking out like a sore thumb is not fun when you're surrounded by young teenagers and already struggle with schoolwork. one day when she came home crying, her mom bought chiaki her first dye set; she started using it as soon as she began high school and never went back.other than the plague of curses and childhood bullies, chiaki had a pretty normal life — a lifelong dancer and acrobat who used the threads to push her body just past the limitations of physics — up until being scouted by jujutsu tech sorcerers as a teenager. initially, she was torn: on one hand, it was such an immense relief to learn that the things she had seen weren't hallucinations. on the other, she didn't want to leave her doting parents. but sorcerers are rare and the world needs them. once she was told how many disappearances and murders are due to curses, chiaki accepted their offer and left home to train at tokyo jujutsu tech.she worked hard, made friends, and became incredibly strong in her pursuit of saving others. eventually, she was able to graduate and become a full-time jujutsu sorcerer. much of her income goes to supporting her parents, in particular freeing her mother from her overly-taxing career and setting them up with a nice place in shibuya.clearly, nothing will ever go wrong with them living in shibuya.

chiaki is recruited into jujutsu tech in the same year as, or a year behind, gojo and co. she gets along much better with the first-years than the aforementioned, finding nanami and haibara to be less threatening and less likely to repeat the patterns of bullying she experienced throughout middle school. of course, it helps that she's been dying her hair and wearing dark contacts to keep hidden the traits that got her there in the first place, and it certainly helps that there's another white-haired light-eyed japanese kid soaking up all the attention (and scorn) by the sheer force of how damn annoying he is.despite her initial worries, chiaki finds that her classmates are much less petty, superstitious, and catty than her previous peers. little by little, girlie comes out of her shell and starts making friends. her parents have a vague idea of what she's up to — she insisted that yaga (her favorite person on campus, because he actually gives a damn about the rules and rewards good behavior) explain a little bit of what's going on. they know it's dangerous. even so, they're proud of their baby. she drags her classmates to dinner at their place whenever possible because by god, so few of them had normal home lives growing up. eventually her parents know all of her classmates by name; eventually they learn more about jujutsu and curses, finally open-minded to what they had tried to commit and medicate their child for previously.chiaki is proud to call herself the sanest sorcerer on campus. don't point out what she's like on the battlefield pls. thanks.  THREADBEARER.    sorcerer verse. 
after graduating, chiaki becomes a full-time jujutsu sorcerer. she remains in close contact with her classmates and frequently returns to jujutsu tech as a home base. in some versions of this verse, she becomes a teacher instead. regardless, chiaki is fiercely protective of the students and will go out of their way to intervene when they're in trouble; she also vocally opposes execution and fights to implement systems that humanize the students: increased ability to contact and spend time with family, mental counseling, etc.  THREADBARE.    curse user verse.
